Not being able to wear stripes it one of those old outdated style rules that falls into the same category as: black is slimming (more on that another day), and don’t wear white after Labour Day. Quick reminder: any rule in this life that holds you back than feeling at your best is probably not a rule you shouldn’t be following. But where were we?
Thing is, stripes is one of the easiest patterns to incorporate into an outfit and bring a little personality to an otherwise plain Jane look (no offence to the Jane’s out there). The other thing? A lot of us fall into a Classic Style Personality category which means stripes ARE our pattern.
So here’s a few tips on how to how to wear them and what to look for:
Our eyes naturally love to follow lines. So if they are wider they create even more visual interest. Suggestion to wear them where you want to create visual interest.
Like the idea of wearing them but are scared to lean into them? Reach for a top that you can wear under a third piece to create some personality without them needing to be the star of the show.
The more close in colour the stripe colours, the more muted the piece will be. Black or navy on white stripes are always going to create the most pop and visual interest.
