Self Love: What it is vs. What it isn’t

It’s officially love month, and as much as I love a good Valentine’s guide with gifting ideas (ah hm, jewellery - always jewellery) I’d rather use it as an opportunity to look at, explore and bring attention to all of the love that surrounds us day in day out. Consider the next few weeks like an expanded version of the Friday Five.

First things first, let's talk about the fact that there is a huge difference between what “self care” is and what “self love is". Example? Let's say having a perfectly curated bath is something you love to do. It fills you up and gives you that time, space and calm you need away from life. You can sit in that perfect bath complete with bath bomb, dim lighting, candles and a book - but if you're saying negative and darn right mean things to yourself before, during or after said perfectly curated bath - all it was was giving yourself space and time, not self love.

But before we do, let’s break it down so we are all on the same page:

Self love is about something SO much deeper. It's about how you talk to yourself (including your subconscious). It's about how you don't break promises to yourself because you are important and matter. It's about you prioritizing yourself just as much a you do others. It's about having boundaries for your energy and well-being. Like I said - its about so much more than the superficial. Which as a side note is why you get so much more than “super cute", “must have”, and “trending” when it comes to style and working with me - it's why you leave with an extra dose of confidence, just saying

Something else self love is? Work. The kind of work that has you deciding you are going to talk to yourself and treat yourself differently. The kind of work that has you waking up, getting consciously aware and has you showing up for yourself each and every single day the same way you would for a workout. Because that's the kind of dedication it takes over and over until you hit that maintenance mode. When all of the sudden it doesn't take as much effort because all of those positive things you've been saying to yourself, all of the positive action you've taken leads to you truly believing it. THAT is where the confidence is created.

As always, thanks for choosing to be here.

Susan
