Non-Negotiables
Non-Negotiables. The things you do no matter what. Things you don’t de-commit on or break a promise to yourself about. For me, my non-negotiables are always chosen based on what I know will leave me feeling at my best.
Are they a form of goals? Absolutely. But what I love is that they leave room to account for how you are feeling that day. It means that you get consciously aware of how you are feeling and asking yourself what you need that day to feel at your best.
Mine? Pretty simple. Get up, move my body and sweat it out, and get ready for the day. Might not seem like I big deal. But what I know about myself is no matter what - I am always at my best when I move my body to start my day. That might mean a jog, a run blown sweaty run worthy of my cross country days, lifting weights or yoga. Some days it’s a 10 in terms of intensity, and some days a 5. The only consistent thing is that I do it. Getting ready? It’s a mindset. When I get ready it means I am more likely to do all of the things, but also - that I’m ready for anything else that comes up. I’m most ready and confident self when I invest in getting ready - including putting on real clothes, ah hm.
Some weeks I layer in other things I want to accomplish - like right now, an early bedtime to try to shake the overwhelming feeling of exhaustion I’ve been feeling as of late. The key to non-negotiables is that you don’t de-commit. You do it no matter what - whether it’s a 5 or a 10.
Maybe your non-negotiables will include scheduling downtime to do absolutely nothing, or meditating, or reading, or going for a walk, or spending less time on your phone. Whatever it is, make sure it is something you know will lead to you feeling at your best. And then make sure you do it.
As always, thanks for choosing to be here.
